An important part of the EUMIND set up is that students from different countries share their information regarding their specific research topics. Exchange of information can take place via the weebly pages, via email and What's app, but also by setting up videoconference calls. Nice about these calls is that you actually get to see your international counterparts and that you can get a glimpse of their personalities and their cultures. It makes you aware of differences and, maybe even more, of the similarities.
VC1
Our first videoconferences took place on December 7 and 9.
Some reflections on VC1:
.
We had our first videoconference with India last week and I enjoyed the conversation. It was nice to see them and be able to talk to them.
The call was stopped earlier because the time was up and that was a bit of a shame because then we couldn't really say goodbye, but we had sent a message in the group app that we liked talking to them and they said they enjoyed it to.
We could ask them a few question and we definitely learned new information by doing that. For example, we asked them if there was a specific reason they dance on bare feet. They answered and said it was because in that way they respected the ground. That was very interesting because I definitely didn’t know that.
I don’t think we and the Indian students differ a lot, there are definitely some differences but overall I don’t think we differ that much, I think when it comes to clothing and jewelry there is a difference but when it comes to personality and things like that I don’t think there are big differences.
I would like to ask them what kind of dances types or dances are the most common and which dances or dance types they enjoy the most.

I was surprised by how good the English of the Indian students was. You could hear the accent, but everything was very clear and I followed them very well. I learned that local shopping is the preferred way of shopping there. I also learned that the prices online and locally differed significantly there. I saw a lot of similarities between us and the Indian stusents during the video call, but also some differences. What I might want to ask in the future is how their country has been handling the Coronavirus. It is not related to our topic, but I’m quite curious.

I liked the videoconference with the Indian students because I learned some things about Indian sports. I couldn’t understand everything because they had a different accent and they spoke very fast and not very loudly. I think the Indians did differ a bit from us, but not as much as I expected.

Last week we had a videoconference with India. It was very fun to meet the other students and to ask questions.
It was a pity that the connection was lost after some time. W=But we could ask some questions to the students from India and we also learned things from the questions. I think the difference between us, and the Indian students is not very big. But there is a difference in dance style for example.
We would like to ask if they think the dances from their country are dying out.
-
I didn’t like that we couldn’t ask all of our questions, because we wanted to know them but maybe we can ask it another time. I learned about the way they dance and the meaning of the way they dance. I also think they didn’t really differ, because they pretty much asked similar question to us than we asked them, but their way of clothing was different than ours. I want to ask them what kind of instruments they use by the most common dances.

My experience with the Indian students was.. interesting to say the least. I think it was fun to see the differences in cultures. The Indian culture is very different than ours and visa versa. I enjoyed the call a lot. It was a shame the connection got lost over thirty minutes but I think it was very interesting to see the differences between cultures. I learned a lot of stuff about their national celebrations. They are very different if you compare them with ours but they sounded fun! I don't know what I would like to ask them next time yet.. Maybe I would like to know the origin of the celebrations

First of all I think it’s a really cool experience. It’s cool how there culture is different from ours, but they still do a lot of thing in the same way as I do. They had the answers that we expected. They also preferred local shopping because you instantly can see what you get and if it fits. We did agreed on the fact that online shopping often is cheaper than local shopping. I personally never had a package not delivered, but the Indians did. I think things go in a different way in our country, but it’s also a lot smaller. I really liked the call, but it was a shame that the call only lasted 30 minutes.
